Palo Santo, which means "Holy Wood" in Spanish, is a tree that grows naturally in Peru, Venezuela, and Ecuador in South America. The tree is left to die naturally for 3-6 years, during which time the resin permeates the trunk, giving off a pleasant fragrance. When it is burned, it releases a gentle, sweet, and distinctive aroma along with the smoke.
